Bowside Capital invests in private equity funds with capital commitments of $150 million or less located in the U.S. or Canada. Our experience indicates that transaction size and characteristics change once funds pass $150 million in committed capital. Small buyout funds typically acquire niche manufacturing, business services, consumer goods and distribution companies with revenues of $10 million to $100 million.
The historical return differential between upper and lower quartile fund managers is significant. We believe that an upper quartile fund manager will have a demonstrated ability to:
- source proprietary transactions
- partner with management teams
- add value to their portfolio companies
- manage their investments through various economic cycles
- leverage the experience and networks of their investor base
In addition to investing in small buyout funds, Bowside Capital makes secondary purchases of limited partner interests in funds that meet its target criteria, co-invests alongside these small funds in direct transactions and invests in fundless sponsor transactions. We do not invest in international, real estate or venture capital funds.
